The duties of the Assessor are to locate, identify and value property in the Town for the purpose of distributing taxes, in accordance with the Real Property Tax Law of New York State.
The Assessor also administers and process exemptions, the most common types being: Solar, Veteran, Enhanced Star (Senior over 65), Star, Clergy Business, Railroad, Agricultural Building and Forest.
Wholly exempt properties include: Exemptions for religious, educational, municipal-owned properties, state and federally owned property and fire district property.
Important Dates on the Assessment Calendar
MARCH 1: Taxable status day-property valued as of conditions and ownership. Also date all exemptions must be filed with Assessor's Office.
MAY 1: The completion Tentative Assessment Role. Assessor shall complete and file this role with the Town Clerk.
GRIEVANCE DAY-4th TUESDAY IN MAY: 10 days prior to Assessor shall mail a change in Assessment to property owner. Board of Assessment Review will meet to hear complaints related to assessments.
JULY 1: Completion of Final Roll. Upon completion of the Final Roll, it is filed with the Town Clerk.
