GARBAGE PICKUP
ALL GARBAGE MUST BE BAGGED AND PUT OUT AT CURBSIDE THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PICKUP.
You must retrieve empty garbage containers the same day as pickup.
ALL garbage must be bagged – loose garbage will NOT be picked up.

BULK PICKUP – ONE HOUSEHOLD BULK ITEM PER WEEK ON ONE TRASH PICKUP DAY DURING THE MONTHS APRIL THROUGH DECEMBER.

White goods, appliances, furniture, gas grills (no tanks), hot water heaters, lawn chairs.
|

Refrigerators (doors removed), freezers, air conditioners, etc.-FREON must be removed and tagged by a professional. Orange County Transfer Stations accept appliances containing FREON fee: $15.00 each. Contact Receiver of Taxes Office 496-6670 for information.

Homeowner responsible for disposal of: Construction/renovation/demolition material (wood, toilet, sink, bathtub, cabinets, etc.), hazardous waste, electronic equipment, yard debris, tires, gas tank, fencing, all metals. If in doubt, call the Receiver of Taxes office at 496-6670

ALL RESIDENTS MUST RECYCLE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

Tie in bundles no larger than 24"x24”. Brown craft cardboard must be flattened & tied. Magazines & telephone books must be tied.

Tin & aluminum cans. Plastic containers, remove caps & rinse. Labels may stay on. Glass, bottles & jars, (clear, green & brown) rinse & remove caps. Labels may stay on. Caps are also recyclable.

WE NOW HAVE SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING. THIS MEANS BOTH COMINGLED & NEWSPAPERS WILL BE PICKED UP EVERY WEEK.
RECYCLABLES WILL BE PICKED UP ON WEDNESDAY. No more schedule to check. Any previously approved recycling material may be put out together. RECYCLING – Must be put in an open container or a container marked recycling.

Also empty non-hazardous waste Aerosol Cans), plastic containers #1 - #7 (look on bottom of container for recycling emblem & number), milk/orange juice cartons, juice boxes, aluminum foil/aluminum pie plates (food encrusted foil is regular garbage), white refrigerated/frozen food containers (eg: frozen vegetables)

Pots, pans, bowls, utensils & other cookware, plastic/ceramic/china dinnerware, plastic buckets, planters, baskets & recycle bins, containers that held a Hazardous Material (oil, antifreeze, pool & yard chemicals, spackle, oil-based paint), plastic bags (can be recycled @ Orange County Transfer Stations), metal/plastic hangers, toys, IV bags/medical waste/containers containing medical sharps, Styrofoam cups/plates/bowls (Styrofoam peanuts can be recycled at New Hampton Transfer Station), light bulbs, window glass, dishes, glasses, ceramics, Pyrex, mirrors, broken glass

HAZARDOUS WASTE INFORMATION

Homeowners are responsible for the disposal of hazardous waste: electronic equipment (televisions, computers, etc), household hazardous waste and construction, reconstruction, demolition material (wood, toilet, sink, bathtub, cabinets), yard debris, tires, gas tanks, fencing, all metals –
- Orange County Transfer Stations accept electronic equipment for recycling during normal operating hours Monday thru Saturday.
- Orange County accepts household hazardous waste at Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

What is Hazardous Waste

Electronic equipment: TVs, computers/personal computers (cpu, monitor, keyboard, mouse & peripherals),printers, pagers, network equipment, modems, scanners, electronic scrap.
Household hazardous waste:pesticides/herbicides, corrosives/cleaners, pool chemicals, oil base paint, varnishes/shellac, stains, wood preservatives, solvents/thinners, photographic chemicals, automotive products (used motor oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, batteries), joint compound, rubber cement, roofing tar, driveway sealer, creosote, inks, adhesives, mercury, fluorescent light bulbs, and cell phones. Read the label – Look for the danger words: corrosive, reactive, flammable, toxic (poisonous), volatile, explosive

Notice to all residents living along or near any town owned easement, drainage or otherwise:
According to Section 169-6. “Littering or dumping” – No person shall deposit, dump or abandon on public places, public lands or town property any garbage, sewerage, refuse, trash, waste, grass clippings, branches or other obnoxious materials. Any person or persons found to have been or are littering or dumping will be required to remove any litter and/or be subject to a fine.
According to Section 152.3 (c). “Litter in Public Places” – No person shall sweep, place or deposit in any gutter, highway, roadway or other public place within the town, any litter from any building or lot or from any public or private sidewalk or driveway. Persons owning or occupying property shall keep the sidewalk and/or highway right-of-way in front of their premises free of litter. The town does not pickup leaves or any debris that has been purposely swept or raked in or on the shoulder, ditch, roadway or town right-of-way. Any person or persons found to have purposely swept leaves or debris or raked on the shoulder, ditch, roadway or town right-of-way will be required to remove same and/or be subject to a fine.
